About
Born in the year 1937 at Calcutta, Dipti Prokash De is popularly known to everybody on ham radio as "DIPU". He is a civil engineer and worked for the Calcutta Port Trust. He worked as a Hydrographic Design Engineer at Haldia. He has retired from the Port Trust in the year 1995 and now resides in Calcutta.

Reading adventure and travel books, Photography including the dark room work and trekking in the Himalayas are some of his favorite hobbies. He switched his hobby to ham radio in 1984 after he suffered a heart attack and as the himalayas became out of bounds for him. Ham Radio has been his first love since then.
Became a Radio Amateur in 1984
After getting his Grade II ticket he was very active on air. He earned his DXCC (Regular and Golden), WAC and AJD. He is also a keen CW fan and is trying for another DXCC in CW. He likes to experiment with various types of antennas. He is currently using a 40m to 10m loop. Icom rigs are his favorite. He has two of them IC 745 and IC 706 mk 11G and a Heathkit HW 5400.

He is one of the net controllers of the AIR NET on 14.150 Mhz which happens every day at 19:30 hrs.
